Throughout this project the students learned about warm colors. We painted backgrounds with pink, yellow, and orange, and then painted beaches and warm things with gold paint on top of the background. To remind us again that these are warm colors we traced our warm things with glue and added real sand from the beach!
With this project we still worked with warm colors, but used them in a fall setting rather than summer. We first painted yellow backgrounds, and then painted silhouettes of trees. To create a texture we painted our leaves with sea sponges and also painted some leaves on the ground to portray the fall season.
For this project we traced our hands
and left them empty while we put our
patterns of shapes and colors in the
background. The next time we work on
these hand prints we will be painting
them with watercolor so we can still
see the marks we made with crayon!
The drawn hand prints look great after being painted, great work to the students.
Not only did the kindergarten classes
create 2 dimensional hand prints, but
they were able to work with clay and
make hand prints as well.
It was a rewarding experience for
them to learn where clay comes from,
that clay is fired in the kiln once before
applying glaze, and again after applying
glazes to create the shiny ceramic look.

The students first drew little snowflakes on their paper with white crayon and painted with cool colors on top of the snowflakes, this method is called wax resist painting. We then folded our paper and cut shapes out so that when we opened the paper, it turned in to beautiful snowflakes!
There were many steps in creating these cherry blossom trees. First we painted with yellow and orange to create our backgrounds, and then splatter painted using the method of Jackson Pollock. We then learned where Japan is on the globe compared to where we live, and learned about the Japanese cherry blossom tree. After painting our branches we used bottle caps as paint brushes to add our cherry blossoms.
We learned about the artist, Gustav Klimt, and how he used gold and patterns in his paintings so we did the same. He also included a black raven in his tree of life painting so we incorporated birds onto our gold patterns, with the touch of gold glitter of course!
We learned about cardinals; how the males are red and the females are mainly brown with only some red feathers. We also learned that they do not typically fly south for the winter, which is why we created (male) cardinals on snow covered trees.
